National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued severe rainfall and snowfall alert for northern areas of Pakistan during January 16 to 22, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
According to details, heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir due to the arrival of a new westerly wind stream. Moderate to heavy snowfall expected in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Astore, Chitral, Dir, Malam Jabba, Swat, Battagram, Naran, Kaghan, Galiat and Murree. Snowfall and rain are also expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh and Poonch of Azad Kashmir. Heavy snowfall may cause slippery roads, temporary closures and reduced visibility.
The risk of avalanches, landslides and slippage has increased in mountainous areas.
NDMA has also alerted that rain is also likely in several areas of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan from January 20 to 23. Power supply may be affected during the possible weather conditions.
Avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous areas. If travel is absolutely necessary, make sure to use safety chains on the tires of your vehicle. Use warm clothes and heaters safely during severe cold weather. Take special care of children, the elderly, and the sick.
