Two notorious dacoits died after receiving serious bullet wounds, and their two other companions escaped from the scene in Lodhran, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The police encounter took place in the Rajapur area of Lodhran. The Crime Control Department (CCD) District Officer (DO) said that a team of CCD was deputed at Pul Gopal to arrest proclaimed offenders.
The CCD signalled four suspicious persons who were riding a motorcycle to stop, but they suddenly started firing at the police team.
In retaliation, the CCD also opened fire on the dacoits. After the firing stopped, the CCD team arrested two dacoits who were injured, but both of them died before reaching the hospital.
The dead dacoits were later identified as Luqman Hakeem and Javed, alias Zarnab Gul.
The district officer of CCD said that two companions of the dacoits escaped from the scene.
Police also recovered a mouser, a pistol, and bullets from the custody of dead dacoits.
The DO said that the dead dacoits were involved in various criminal cases, including bank robbery, terrorist activities, and snatching.
Several criminal cases were registered against the dead dacoits. He said that a search operation is underway to apprehend the culprits.
