An overseas Pakistani national has filed a compensation suit against the project director and contractor of the BRT Red Line project after losing one of his eyes in a road accident during the project’s construction work in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The case was filed before the Senior Civil Judge (East), where the complainant has sought damages of Rs178.07 million from the Sindh government, BRT administration, and the contractor for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, permanent disability, and other losses.
Advocate Usman Farooq, the lawyer for complainant Syed Waqas, said his client had come to Pakistan in 2025 to perform Hajj.
In May 2025, while travelling to the airport on University Road in Karachi, his client’s vehicle collided with a barrier placed on the road as part of the BRT Red Line construction work.
The lawyer claimed that the barrier installed in the middle of the road had neither reflective markings nor warning signs, which caused the accident. As a result, Syed Waqas lost one of his eyes and suffered severe facial fractures.
Advocate Usman Farooq argued that the required safety measures for protecting public property and citizens were not followed during the construction of the BRT Red Line project. He continued that negligence in placing safety barriers and providing proper warnings led to the serious injuries suffered by the plaintiff.
The complainant has requested the court to order the Sindh government, BRT authorities, and the contractor to pay him Rs178.07 million in compensation for medical treatment, rehabilitation, disability, and other damages caused by the accident.
