Lives of patients have been put at a greater risk at Sargodha’s Dr. Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital as a ward boy, not surgeons, is performing surgeries, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

On the other hand, 24News TV channel has managed to obtain an exclusive CCTV footage of the boy named Waqas performing surgeries instead of Hafiz Riaz, a surgeon.

It has been learnt that Riaz often remains absent and assigns the task of operating on patients to Waqas.

And to make matters worse, all this is happening under the nose of the hospital’s administration, the principal and the MS staff, who are acting as silent spectators and are reluctant to take action against the surgeon as well as the boy.

The situation has prompted the patients’ attendants to appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take action.

On the other hand, the hospital’s administration has said that Waqas had been hired as an OT.

It has further said that there are many staffers in the hospital who perform tasks other than those they had been hired for. “Since we are understaffed, we have given special training to our staff to perform surgeries,” it has said, adding, “Some people malign the hospital only because they have an animosity towards its owner.”
