A 13-member Sindh government delegation met WAPDA Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Saeed (retired) at WAPDA House Thursday to review water, drainage, hydropower and energy projects linked to the province’s future development needs.
The delegation was led by Sindh Minister for Irrigation, Planning and Development Jam Khan Shoro and also attended a meeting with senior WAPDA officials.
According to a statement, the two sides conducted a broad institutional review of challenges facing Pakistan’s water, food and energy security.
The meeting examined options for the operation and maintenance of completed WAPDA projects in Sindh, particularly drainage infrastructure.
Officials also discussed ongoing and proposed water and hydropower projects in Sindh, as well as schemes in the upper catchment areas of the country’s rivers.
The talks covered long-term projects considered important for the federating units in view of rising population, growing water demand, food security concerns and future energy requirements.
Both sides agreed to prepare and finalise recommendations for the political leadership on major future projects involving the provinces and other federal units.
They also agreed to continue coordination on measures needed to improve project planning, implementation and maintenance.
