The Punjab government has earmarked Rs148 billion for the education sector in its development budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.
Presenting the budget in the Punjab Assembly, Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman unveiled a range of initiatives aimed at transforming the education system.
The allocation covers new projects, expansion of existing programmes, and significant investments in infrastructure and student financial aid.
One of the key highlights is a Rs15 billion provision for merit-based scholarships for high-achieving students. Additionally, the government will continue the Undergraduate Scholarship Programme with a budget of Rs5.9 billion, allowing thousands of deserving university students to pursue higher education.
“Inclusion, accessibility, and excellence remain at the core of our education policy,” the minister stated, underscoring the critical role of youth investment in the province’s long-term development.
To address the rising infrastructure needs in public schools, Rs40 billion has been allocated for the construction of additional classrooms across Punjab. This initiative aims to reduce overcrowding and improve learning environments, particularly in underserved rural areas.
Another Rs35 billion has been set aside for the Education Delivery Programme, focused on enhancing learning outcomes, teacher training, and the overall quality of education services across the province.
