US President Donald Trump Monday issued a stern warning to Iran, urging its leadership to return to the negotiation table before the situation escalates beyond repair, 24News HD TV channel.
During a media briefing at the G7 Summit in Canada, Trump made a series of pointed remarks highlighting the growing tensions between the two countries and emphasized the urgency of diplomatic engagement.
“Iran is not winning the war,” Trump stated emphatically, alluding to the growing economic and political pressure Tehran faces due to international sanctions and isolation.
He further cautioned Iranian leaders, saying, “They should come to the table before it's too late.”
Trump clarified that there is currently no standing agreement with Iran. “There is no deal,” he said. “They have to make one.”
Stressing the inevitability of dialogue, he remarked, “Iran must come to the negotiating table under any circumstances.”
The president also suggested that Iran's officials are beginning to recognize the futility of confrontation and may soon express interest in reducing tensions. “I believe they would want to talk about de-escalation,” Trump noted.
Referring to a timeline, Trump hinted at a decisive moment having just passed, saying, “Iran had 60 days; on the 61st day, this was bound to happen.” He implied that Iran had ignored critical diplomatic opportunities.
Acknowledging the devastating consequences of conflict, Trump stated, “War is painful for both sides,” indicating his preference for a diplomatic rather than military resolution to the standoff.
Touching on US foreign policy, Trump reaffirmed America's unwavering support for Israel, declaring, “We have always supported Israel,” and added, “Israel is doing very well at the moment.”
