Deputy Inspector General of Motorway Police has banned men in uniform from hitchhiking on motorways, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Officials of all departments have been directed not to ever stop vehicles at toll plazas asking for hitchhike.
DIG Motorway Imran Shahid issued a letter to the heads including CCPO Lahore, Rescue, PTC Farooqabad and relevant institutions.
It was instructed that strict departmental action would be taken against violators.
Motorway M-2 National Highway's reputation is being affected.
Asking for a lift in uniform has a negative impact on domestic and foreign passengers.
Presence on the motorway will be only for duty, patrolling and law enforcement, he added.
