Pakistan and China have welcomed the recent agreement reached between Iran and the United States, describing it as a significant step towards lasting peace and stability in the region.
According to the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during which the two leaders discussed regional developments and bilateral cooperation.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said both foreign ministers welcomed the agreements reached under the Iran-US memorandum of understanding and emphasized the importance of continued diplomacy and dialogue. Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi agreed that the understanding between Tehran and Washington represents an important development for promoting peace, stability and constructive engagement in the region.
During the conversation, the Chinese foreign minister praised Pakistan’s active diplomatic efforts and acknowledged its constructive role in facilitating a conducive environment for continued contacts between Iran and the United States. Wang Yi also acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution to promoting global peace and stability through diplomatic engagement.
The spokesperson said Ishaq Dar appreciated China’s consistent support for negotiations and diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States. He commended China’s efforts to restore regional peace and stability, including President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal and the joint five-point initiative advanced by Pakistan and China.
Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining close communication to ensure the effective implementation of the Iran-US understanding and the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues through dialogue.
The two foreign ministers also highlighted the strategic significance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, stressing its vital role in safeguarding the global economy, energy security and international trade.
The discussion also focused on Pakistan-China bilateral relations. Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent successful visit to China and agreed to continue implementing the outcomes of the visit.
The deputy prime minister emphasized the importance of advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and further strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan and China reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close communication and consultations on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
