The Punjab government has proposed allocating Rs252 billion for police and law enforcement agencies in the fiscal year 2026-27 budget, with a major focus on technology-driven policing, digital surveillance and strengthening law and order under its Safe Punjab vision.
According to budget documents, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining law and order, eliminating crime and strengthening the writ of the state through modern technology and an integrated security strategy.
The budget proposes more than Rs200.59 billion for the Punjab Police alone, while the broader allocation for police and law enforcement agencies stands at Rs252 billion.
Punjab Police currently has a sanctioned strength of 236,203 personnel across the province.
Of the police allocation, Rs161.48 billion has been earmarked for salaries and allowances, while Rs39.10 billion has been allocated for non-salary expenditures, including operational and administrative expenses.
Budget documents show that the provincial government plans to spend approximately Rs1,572 per citizen annually on security and policing services.
Among all districts, Lahore Police has received the largest allocation, with more than Rs94.31 billion proposed for the provincial capital, reflecting the highest level of security expenditure in Punjab.
Khushab Police has been allocated Rs980 million, the lowest policing budget among the province's districts.
The documents show that nearly 80% of the police budget will be spent on salaries and employee-related costs, while non-salary expenditures remain comparatively limited.

Safe Punjab vision
The provincial government has identified the establishment of a safe and peaceful society as one of its top priorities and plans to expand modern digital security infrastructure throughout Punjab.
Under the Smart Safe Cities Programme, modern surveillance systems are being extended to tehsil level, while regional data centres and Punjab Police Integrated Command (PPIC) projects are expected to strengthen the province's security architecture.
According to budget documents, multiple security and surveillance initiatives worth Rs47 billion are being implemented to improve monitoring, crime prevention and emergency response capabilities.
The projects include the expansion of modern camera networks, data analytics systems and command-and-control centres aimed at improving the efficiency of law enforcement agencies.
Officials said 19 districts and several tehsils would benefit from Smart Safe Cities projects during the next fiscal year.
Police infrastructure and forensic capacity
The budget also includes measures to strengthen policing infrastructure, particularly in underdeveloped and underserved areas.
Police stations, police posts and police pickets will be constructed at a cost of Rs2.2 billion to improve the operational reach of law enforcement agencies.
In a major forensic initiative, crime scene units will be established in 28 districts at an estimated cost of Rs14.21 billion.
According to the budget documents, the units will support scientific collection, preservation and analysis of evidence and help improve criminal investigations.
Evidence preservation, storage and transfer systems will be developed in line with international standards to enhance the quality of investigations and prosecutions.
The government said the proposed allocations would help modernise policing, strengthen law enforcement capacity and improve public safety across the province through greater use of technology, surveillance and scientific investigation techniques.
