In a bid to maintain peace and curb potential security threats, the Peshawar administration has imposed a strict ban on toy guns and firecrackers ahead of Eid ul Fitr. The decision comes a day after a deadly mosque explosion claimed the life of prominent religious scholar Mufti Munir Shakir.
Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram issued a notification on Sunday, stating that the ban has been enforced under Section 144 of the CrPC. Violators will face legal action under Section 188.
The notification emphasized that prohibiting the sale and purchase of toy guns was necessary to prevent the promotion of violent tendencies among children and maintain law and order during the festive period. It further stated that the timely ban would ensure effective enforcement while preventing unnecessary inconvenience for both authorities and traders.
The district administration has also announced strict measures against those found selling toy guns, warning of legal consequences. The order takes immediate effect and will remain in force for 30 days unless modified or withdrawn.
The security concerns prompting this decision were heightened following a recent bomb explosion outside a mosque in Peshawar’s Urmar area. The blast resulted in the death of Mufti Munir Shakir, founder of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Islam group, and left three others injured.
