Respiratory infection hunts Lahore Zoo; several rare animals die

Recently, a rare Jamesbook deer died in Lahore Zoo during the last few weeks due to a respiratory infection, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

A spokesman of the Punjab Wildlife Department said that the management of Lahore Zoo said that due to a severe cold wave in February, a female Jamesbook deer was feeling unwell as she was facing difficulty while breathing.

The Lahore Zoo imported these precious animals from abroad a few months ago. Two infant deer died within a few days of their birth.

A previous animal lost eyesight during a fight with another Sindh ibex. A pregnant smeter deer lost a child during surgery.

The spokesman further said that different teams of veterinary doctors are examining the causes of these animals deaths while a Jamesbook deer is still under treatment.
