The Senate Secretariat on Monday rejected certain media reports regarding the purchase of a Land Cruiser for the Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani, describing them as misleading and factually incorrect.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Senate Secretariat, the reports circulating in some sections of the media are based on incomplete information and malafide intentions.
The spokesperson clarified that the vehicle in question, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was duly purchased in May 2025 during the financial year 2024–2025 through a transparent procurement process. The purchase was part of an overall vehicle replacement plan approved for the institution.
The statement explained that the procurement programme included the replacement of vehicles allocated to chairmen of standing committees, the deputy chairman Senate, the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition and the Senate Secretariat.
It was also clarified that although the vehicle was purchased in May 2025 using savings from the previous year’s budget, it was delivered in March 2026.
The Senate Secretariat categorically rejected what it termed as baseless insinuations in the reports and urged media organisations to exercise due diligence and professional responsibility while reporting on matters related to state institutions.
