Veteran actress Atiqa Odho has come under fire on social media following her remarks defending neutrality in the wake of the Indo-Pak war.

In her statement, Atiqa emphasised the importance of "neutrality and professionalism" in the arts.

“As artists, our work speaks beyond borders. It's essential to remain professional and not fall into the trap of political hysteria.

“I stand by Fawad Khan – not because of personal ties but because I believe in respecting an individual’s right to silence when things turn political,” she said.

Her comments drew ire from several fellow artists, who believe neutrality at such a time reflects apathy rather than professionalism.

Veteran actress Mishi Khan, in a fiery reaction, slammed Atiqa Odho’s comparison of war-related tensions with the Covid-19 pandemic, calling it “nonsensical.” She emphasized that actors — especially public figures — must take a clear stance in favor of their nation. “Even a special connection with Fawad Khan doesn’t justify these statements,” she added.

In her response, Rabya Kulsoom told Atiqa that “identity comes from the country.”

She took to her Instagram to share: “So neutrality and soft image are two synonyms for not being able to stand firm for your country and people, and completely disregard the fact that with great power comes great responsibility.”

Hina Altaf also weighed in, directly calling out Fawad Khan for remaining silent. She criticized his neutral stance, pointing out that he had long benefited from Pakistan’s national pride and brand endorsements. “Stop playing the victim. Loyalty isn’t optional,” she stated bluntly.
