Following a notification issued by the Punjab government, 27 sugar mills across the province have begun crushing for the new season.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, among the mills that commenced operations are Makkah, Madinah, Baba Farid and Hunza Sugar Mills.
Other mills starting crushing include Ramzan, Noon, Chiniot, Tariq Corporation, Safeena, Hunza Jhang, Kashmir, Layyah, Tandlianwala, Joharabad and Seven Star.
According to the Punjab Price Control and Commodities Management Department, another 11 sugar mills are expected to begin operations during the current week.
Committees have been established at the deputy commissioner level to monitor crushing activities, and these committees will submit weekly reports to the department.
Officials said the start of crushing will help stabilise sugar prices further, while the Price Control Department is closely monitoring the entire crushing season.
The department has also set up special desks at the district level to ensure timely payments to farmers.
