The International Cricket Council (ICC) has accepted Pakistan’s objection and removed match referee Andy Pycroft, sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The decision followed Pakistan's serious concerns over Pycroft’s alleged conduct and collusion with Indian officials during the T20 Asia Cup 2025, prompting calls for his replacement.
According to sources, the ICC approved the proposal to appoint former West Indies captain and veteran cricket official Richie Richardson as the new match referee.
By conceding to Pakistan’s demand, cricket’s governing body has effectively resolved the controversy that had threatened to overshadow the Asia Cup 2025.
The dispute had escalated earlier when Pakistan accused Pycroft of breaching the ICC’s code of conduct and lodged a formal complaint seeking his removal.
Initially, the ICC’s refusal to act triggered speculation about a possible boycott of the tournament by Pakistan.
However, the latest decision to replace the referee has defused tensions and ensured the smooth continuation of the competition.
With the matter now settled, Pakistan will go ahead with its scheduled match against the United Arab Emirates tomorrow, sources said.
The development is being seen as a significant victory for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had stood firm on its demand for neutrality and fair play in the tournament’s officiating.
The appointment of Richardson, a respected figure in the cricketing world, is expected to restore balance and confidence in the officiating of the Asia Cup from now on.
