Representatives of the Islamabad Bar Council on Tuesday condemned Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision to stop Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri from performing his judicial duties.

Speaking at a press conference, Islamabad Bar Council member Aleem Abbasi said, “We appeared before the division bench of IHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and asked the judges to listen to us. Today is the darkest day; we will remember it as a dark day.”

He said this was the first time that a judge had stopped a fellow judge from work, as no judge of the Supreme Court or the High Court could stop a fellow judge from work. He said, “We condemn this decision of the Islamabad High Court. This day will always be remembered as a black day. A wrong tradition is being set.

“We have called a meeting of the general body of the Islamabad Bar Council tomorrow. We will announce a complete strike at the District Courts and Islamabad High Court tomorrow. We will take out a rally after the general body meeting.

“What will you do if the Peshawar High Court stops you from performing your judicial duties tomorrow?” Abbasi asked Justice Dogar.
