Lawyer Mian Shahid Mehmood filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the formation of the Crime Control Department (CCD) Punjab and declaring it as null and void, reported 24NewsHD TV reported.
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Justice Aliya Neelum heard the case on Tuesday. Assistant Advocate General Mohammad Waqas Umar appeared in the Court on behalf of the Punjab government.
During the hearing of the case, Chief Justice Aliya Neelum asked the lawyer of petitioner to read para-2. Then she again asked the lawyer to read para no. 25.
The Chief Justice said that “some amendments were made in Police Order 2002”? She again asked the lawyer whether he had pointed out these amendments.
On this, the lawyer of the petitioner said that CCD was involved in the police encounters. Justice Aliya Neelum questioned whether the names of all those who were killed in these police encounters are mentioned?
The lawyer of the petitioner further complained that CCD personnel are not cooperating with him and are avoiding sharing information with him.
Justice Aliya Neelum inquired about where he got the details of all these police encounters. The Chief Justice went on to say that all the points that were raised by the petitioner were not challenged in the petition.
The lawyer further said that “he is ready for any amendment according to the directions of the Lahore High Court”.
He further prayed to the Court to allow him some time for this amendment. On this, the Chief Justice allowed the petitioner to amend the petition and adjourned the hearing of the case.
Government of the Punjab, Secretary Law, Inspector-General of Police Punjab, and Additional Inspector-General of Police and Crime Control Department made the parties in this case.
