A robber was gunned down, and his other accomplices escaped during a police encounter in the Sundar area of Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The encounter took place in the jurisdiction of Sundar Police Station with the Crime Control Department (CCD) team Chung.
Police said that after receiving credible information, the CCD team cordoned off the entire area.
After taking notice of a suspicious motorcycle, the CCD team signalled it to stop at 2 am, but the accused, who were riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the CCD team.
During the exchange of fire, one dacoit was killed, and his colleagues fled from the scene.
Police said that the dead dacoit, who was identified as Riaz, was involved in more than three dozen criminal cases.
The CCD team closed all the roads leading to Sundar Road and posted a heavy contingent of police in civil dress and uniform. A wave of fear and harassment gripped the area.
On hearing gunshots, the residents of the area came out of their houses, but the policemen advised them to stay away from the crime scene.
