The Alkhidmat Foundation Women Trust organized a collective wedding ceremony for 60 deserving girls providing them with essential household items and financial assistance to support their new life beginnings, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Each bride was presented with a wedding gift box, cash salami and other necessary items. A meal was also arranged for the brides and their families attending the ceremony in Lahore. The event emphasized the importance of promoting simplicity in weddings instead of unnecessary traditions and social display.
Social women from different walks of life also participated in a discussion titled “From Rituals to Relationships.”
Dr Humaira Tariq said supporting the marriages of deserving girls was an important part of Alkhidmat’s social welfare services. The organization was helping reduce the financial burden on deserving families and supporting the dignified send-off of their daughters.
She added that Alkhidmat was serving humanity across the country without discrimination.
Saima Shabbir said Alkhidmat had distributed 16,700 wedding gift boxes over the past five years and spent Rs1.02 billion on the initiative. She described the gift boxes as an expression of compassion, love and social support for deserving families.
She said that weddings should promote simplicity rather than becoming a burden of unnecessary expenses and customs.
Saba Saqib said supporting the marriages of deserving girls aimed not only to reduce the financial burden on low-income families but also to protect their dignity and self-respect. She noted that among the prevailing economic challenges, arranging a daughter’s wedding had become a major challenge for low-income families.
She urged financially stable members of society to share the happiness of families in need and contribute to their celebrations.
The collective wedding of 60 deserving girls not only brought happiness to 60 families but also served as a reminder of the collective responsibility of society.
