The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to conduct a hearing regarding the objections raised against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intra-party election process on December 18, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the report, the ECP issued notices to PTI Chairman and Chief Election Commissioner Niaz Ullah Niazi.
A five-member bench of ECP is scheduled to convene to address the challenges and concerns raised against PTI's intra-party elections.
Thirteen applications had been submitted, urging the declaration of the PTI intra-party elections as "void".
Prominent among those who filed the applications against the PTI intra-party polls were Akbar S. Babar, Raja Tahir Nawaz, and Naureen Farooq.
The ECP also sent notices to PTI Balochistan President Munir Ahmed Baloch, PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, Punjab PTI President Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Ali Amin Gandapur.
Additionally, the notices were also issued to Returning Officer Central Secretariat Sardar Masroof Khan and Returning Officer Ansar Mahmood in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central Secretariat.
The petitioners' lawyers held that PTI intra-party elections should be declared null and void.
“Awam Pakistan Party also submitted an application to the Election Commission for obtaining the election symbol bat.”
It contended that PTI failed to hold intra-party elections.
The party asserts that the bat symbol is currently vacant, and no party has applied for it. “Election mark of bat should be given to it.”
