In a significant reshuffle aimed at strengthening its diplomatic presence abroad, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has reassigned ambassadors to various major capitals worldwide, reliable sources confirmed to 24NewsHD TV channel.
Lt. Gen. Mohammad Aamer has reached Doha, Qatar, to assume his duties as Pakistan’s new ambassador.
He replaces Dr. Mohammad Ejaz, who is set to take up the ambassadorial duties in Minsk, Belarus.
Following the retirement of Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, Zaheer Aslam Janjua, the post remained vacant.
Senior diplomat Mohammad Saleem Khan is expected to arrive in Canada by December 29 to take charge as the new High Commissioner.
In another high-profile appointment, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, Pakistan’s Ambassador to France and former MOFA Spokesperson, has reached New York. He will assume the position of Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, succeeding Munir Akram.
To fill Ahmed’s vacated post in Paris, current MOFA Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has been approved by the French government and will soon take over as Pakistan’s Ambassador to France.
Meanwhile, Nabeel Munir, Pakistan's Ambassador to South Korea, has completed his term and returned home, leaving the position in Seoul vacant for now.
Similarly, the embassy in Pyongyang, North Korea, which was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, remains non-operational.
Changes are also unfolding in other regions. Suljuk Mustansar Tarar, previously Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, has been assigned to head the embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This creates another vacancy, this time in Amsterdam.
The reshuffle in Africa also faces challenges. Farooq Malik, nominated as High Commissioner to South Africa, has reportedly declined the post after serving in Kuwait. The government is yet to finalize a replacement.
In Europe, Muhammad Sami-ur-Rehman, who served as Ambassador to Morocco since October 2023, is slated to take over the role of Pakistan’s Ambassador to Poland after concluding his tenure in Morocco in November 2024.
These shifts are part of a broader strategy to bolster Pakistan's diplomatic influence globally, though several key posts remain unfilled, particularly in Seoul, Amsterdam, and South Africa.
The government is under increasing pressure to finalize these appointments to maintain the country's diplomatic momentum, the sources added.
