Police on Wednesday arrested a man posing as a US embassy official after he was found carrying a fake embassy identification card in the Diplomatic Enclave, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to police sources, the suspect was later identified as an Afghan national. He entered the Diplomatic Enclave through Gate No. 2 in a vehicle accompanied by two women. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies had already identified the suspect and were monitoring his movements.
Police sources said the Afghan national was wanted in multiple fraud cases and had also been the subject of complaints lodged by the US embassy.
With the assistance of intelligence agencies, police arrested the suspect, identified as Haris. He was subsequently shifted to the Secretariat Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
Authorities are continuing inquiries to determine the extent of his activities and any possible security implications.
