The closure of the Chaman border has left around 1,200 people stranded on both sides for the past two months, officials and local leaders said on Wednesday.
A delegation of the Pashtun National Jirga, including Malik Abdul Khaliq Lala, Haji Abdul Bari, and Haji Abdul Qadeem, presented a list of the stranded individuals to Deputy Commissioner Chaman Habib Ahmed Bangulzai, urging authorities to allow them to return to their respective areas.
Border tensions have also turned Chaman into a makeshift warehouse for hundreds of Pakistani vehicles, which have been stranded since October 12, sources said.
A few days ago, a delegation of traders and transporters had also met with the district administration to discuss the disruptions caused by the closure.
The Chaman administration confirmed that work is underway to address the list of stranded people submitted by the Pashtun National Jirga. Authorities are coordinating measures to ease the situation and restore movement at the border.
