Significant progress was made this year towards transforming the federal capital into a signal-free city, as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) launched and completed six major infrastructure projects on time, easing traffic flow and providing relief to citizens.
On the instructions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the CDA initiated several mega projects aimed at implementing Islamabad’s master plan and ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement on major arteries. As a result, key highways and roads across the capital were made signal-free.
Among the major initiatives was the Jinnah Square project, which was completed in record time. To further facilitate traffic on Jinnah Avenue and Murree Road, the Murree Road Interchange and Underpass were developed, while the Tayyip Erdogan Interchange at Sector F-8 was also completed, making large parts of the city signal-free.
In addition to road infrastructure, the CDA achieved a long-pending milestone by handing over possession to allottees in Sector I-15 after more than two decades. The authority also initiated the process of handing over possession in Margalla Enclave following the completion of development work.
Several other projects progressed during the year, including work on the Model Jail, redesigning of the Faizabad Interchange parking plaza, and the construction of multiple parking plazas to address congestion. The T-Chowk flyover project was also completed in a short period, creating a 26-kilometre signal-free corridor for traffic entering Islamabad from GT Road.
Chairman CDA said the projects were part of a broader vision to improve urban mobility and civic facilities in the capital.
Meanwhile, plans are also underway to further enhance Islamabad’s status as an international city. Upcoming projects include the construction of a cricket stadium, a seven-star hotel and the expansion of the Jinnah Convention Center to host international exhibitions and events.
