Indian actress and dancer Rakhi Sawant has strongly criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an incident in which he allegedly pulled the veil off a Muslim woman, 24NewsHD TV reported on Wednesday.
In a video message shared on social media, Rakhi said, “I have immense respect for Nitish Kumar, but what he did is completely unacceptable. Doesn’t he have any shame?”
She added, “A Muslim woman has to wear a veil. Does he not have even a little understanding? On one hand, you are honoring her with an award, and on the other, you are humiliating her in public.”
Rakhi called on Nitish Kumar to hold a press conference, invite the woman involved, and publicly apologize to her.
The incident, which occurred two days ago, has sparked widespread condemnation from politicians, journalists, and human rights organizations across India.
A case has also been filed against Nitish Kumar in connection with the matter.
Human rights activist Deepika Pushkarnath described the act as a serious case of harassment, while former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned it in strong terms, calling it an act of degrading women.
The controversy has intensified the debate over women’s rights and religious sensitivity in the country.
