Sindh govt announces holiday for Christians on Boxing Day

Much to the delight of members of the Christian community, the Sindh government on Wednesday announced that there would be a holiday on December 26 (Boxing Day) as well, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

As per the notification issued by the provincial government’s Department of Services, General Administration and Coordination, the holiday was only meant for the people belonging to the Christian community.

It was further stated in the notification that there would be a holiday at all government, autonomous and semi-government departments, corporations and local councils, which are under the provincial government.

However, people delivering essential services will not be entitled to avail the holiday.

Moreover, the provincial government has also issued a notification for a holiday on December 25, which besides Christmas is also the birthday of Father of the Nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

On the other hand, Christmas celebrations have already started in the country.

Five days ago, on Thursday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi, the judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) joined employees and security staff from the Christian community to celebrate Christmas by cutting a cake at a special ceremony held at the Supreme Court (SC) building.

The event was attended by employees from the Christian community, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity, harmony, and mutual respect.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Justice underscored the importance of interfaith harmony and reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to the constitutional principles of equality, religious freedom, and human dignity. He warmly extended Christmas greetings to Christian employees and acknowledged their valuable contribution to the administration of justice. He also appreciated their dedication and service to the institution.
