As much as 40 percent increase was registered in the import of petroleum products (POL) in January 2025 compared with January 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
In January 2025, over 1.3 million tonnes of petroleum products were imported, while the figures stood at over 0.9 million in January 2024.
Compared with the same period last year, the import of crude oil was up by 56 per cent to cross the 0.8 million tonnes mark, while that of petrol by 39 per cent to reach over 300,000 tonnes.
In January 2024, 277,000 tonnes of petrol had been imported.
The import of diesel, however, dropped by 11 per cent to reach from 156,000 tonnes in January 2024 to 139,000 in January 2025.
However, compared with December 2024, the import of these products decreased by 24 per cent in January 2025.
During the first seven months of the ongoing financial year (FY), petroleum products imports went up by 15 per cent to stand at 9953,000 tonnes, while during the same period in the preceding year, the imports stood at 865,000 tonnes.
