Kyrgyz authorities announced Monday the implementation of a series of measures to combat violence in schools, after three teenage students were killed in less than a month.
Between January 21 and February 12, three students were killed by their peers in different schools across the central Asian country, prompting a response from authorities.
At least one other student was stabbed in the same time period, and on Monday the police reported that a boy born in 2008 had been hospitalised after being beaten up.
The Interior Minister and Education Minister will introduce "emergency buttons" in each school, increase video surveillance and increase the number of inspectors in charge of minors, particularly those "at risk", according to Kyrgyzstan's official news agency Kabar.
More than 30 interior ministry representatives were also fired and around 40 were sanctioned, a senior police officer told parliamentarians, promising to "do everything to put an end to this wave" of violence.
In mid-February, an education ministry representative said he was "very worried" by the situation and said at least 3,600 students had been identified as being "at risk".
He highlighted the cases of children from single-parent families and those whose parents have left to work abroad, leaving them without parental care.
Kyrgyzstan, one of the poorest former Soviet Union countries, sees around 200,000 citizens leave each year to work in Russia, leaving their children in the care of relatives.
