A 22-year-old student reportedly jumped from the third floor of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) in Lahore, police said on Tuesday.
According to police officials, the injured student was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, where her condition is said to be critical.
Police stated that the victim was residing in the medical college’s hostel at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement authorities have collected evidence from the scene and said that investigations are underway from multiple angles to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary Report on Incident
Within hours after the incident, the university registrar issued a preliminary report outlining the immediate response given by the administration.
According to the report, the incident occurred on February 17 at 7:15 pm. University authorities stated that the student was promptly shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where treatment is currently ongoing.
The administration initiated emergency medical care as soon as the incident was reported. A medical board has also been constituted to closely monitor the student’s condition, while the heads of the college and university are personally overseeing the situation.
In addition, a fact-finding committee has been formed to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 24 hours.
The university administration said that the causes and background of the incident will be thoroughly investigated, adding that the relevant institutions have also been formally informed.
Similar Incident Reported Earlier in Lahore
In a similar incident reported earlier in Lahore in January 2026, a first-semester pharmacy student sustained serious injuries after allegedly jumping from the second floor of the University of Lahore.
According to Lahore DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, the student, who hailed from Narowal, was talking to someone on the phone shortly before the incident and reportedly jumped during the call. Police described the incident as an apparent suicide attempt, though the exact motive could not be determined at the time.
The student suffered fractured legs along with chest injuries and a minor head injury, and was shifted to Lahore General Hospital in critical condition for treatment.
Police took the student’s mobile phone into custody as part of the investigation, while officials stated that further inquiry would be conducted following her recovery. No first information report (FIR) was registered immediately, as the decision to file a complaint was left to the family.
Following the incident, the university administration suspended on-campus classes and shifted academic activities online, while also considering additional safety measures such as installing protective fencing on each floor to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
