The National Assembly unanimously passed the bill to increase the punishment for insulting Sahaba (RA), Ahl al-Bayt (RA) and Umm al-Momineen (RA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, MNA of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), presented the bill to increase the punishment for insulting Sahaba (RA), Ahl al-Bayt (RA) and Umm al-Momineen (RA).
“The punishment for insulting any Member of Parliament (MP), including me, is five years. Whereas, the punishment for insulting Sahaba (RA), Ahl al-Bayt (RA) and Umm al-Momineen (RA) is three years which is an insult itself,” he pointed out.
“In this bill, the punishment for insulting Sahaba (RA), Ahl al-Bayt (RA) and Umm al-Momineen (RA) is being increased,” he added.
Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani presented the bill to the House for approval.
The House unanimously approved the bill.
The punishment was increased by amending the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
