Police arrested 60 illegal Afghan nationals during an ongoing crackdown in Karachi over the last few days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sohrab Goth Aurangzeb Khattak said that these illegal Afghan nationals are drug addicts and were in hiding in different areas of Karachi.
DSP Aurangzeb Khattak said thousands of illegal Afghan nationals were sent back to their home during different operations.
He said that a search operation is still underway to apprehend illegal Afghan nationals.
He said that time was granted to a few Afghan families who were residing in Medical Ground Karachi
Earlier, on January 14, 2025, at least 11 Afghan nationals were arrested during a major operation conducted by police near the Sindh-Punjab border.
Police officials from Ubauro Police Station arrested 11 people during the checking of suspicious individuals in the Sindh-Punjab border area for not possessing national identity cards.
Initial investigations revealed that the arrested Afghan individuals did not have passports or any legal documents.
A police spokesperson informed that cases have been registered against the arrested Afghan nationals, and all of them have been shifted to jail after completion of legal formalities.
Arrests in Khairpur
Seven Afghan nationals, including a woman, were arrested in a joint operation by intelligence agencies and police in Khairpur on Saturday.
According to the police, the operation was carried out on information about the presence of foreigners in the limits of the Economic Zone Police Station in Khairpur.
The arrested Afghan nationals include Omar, Sher, Muhammad Arif, Hikmatullah, Abu Bakr, Muhammad Ramzan and a woman named Ruqayya.
SSP Khairpur Dr. Samiullah Soomro said the operation against the foreign nationals was carried out on the basis of a tip-off.
The arrested persons are residents of Afghanistan and did not have any legal documents including visas, the SSP said.
