Alarming rise in polio spread in Pakistan

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in polio spread as data from all four provinces and Islamabad confirmed it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

According to the National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication (NEOC), 127 sewerage samples were obtained from 87 districts across the country, which were tested by the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.

The data stated that 40 samples were found polio-positive, and 87 samples were reported as negative.

Two cases from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa eight, Punjab six, and Sindh reported 23 positive samples of the poliovirus.

One sample of polio virus was reported positive, and four were negative. All the polio virus samples were reported negative from Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The National Emergency Operations Center further stated that all these samples were obtained in December 2025. Effective use of the anti-polio virus pave way for a decrease in polio cases.
