Legendary Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has permanently relocated from Karachi to Islamabad, citing personal reasons for the move, , 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.
Speaking at his new residence, Afridi expressed hope for Pakistan’s rapid development, emphasizing that continuity in policies and institutions is essential for long-term growth.
Afridi, a former captain, said Pakistan and its cricketing achievements have given him global respect, recognition, and identity, and he now wishes to give back to the country and the sport.
Addressing political speculation, Afridi clarified that he has no immediate plans to enter politics, stressing that the government, Chief Justice, Army Chief, and other key constitutional offices should complete their full tenures.
He also revealed that he had received offers for significant government positions in the past, but declined them, saying ceremonial roles held no appeal.
“The foundation of national progress lies in policy consistency, democratic processes, and constitutional tenures of state institutions,” Afridi said. “When institutions complete their terms, policies remain stable, and the benefits of development reach ordinary citizens faster.”
