Veteran Pakistani film director Syed Noor has revealed that action hero and film star Shaan Shahid initially refused to perform the iconic dance sequence in the 2006 film Majajan.
Recalling memory of the song, Syed Noor told that he asked Shaan to wear ghungroos on his hands and feet while dancing in front of Saima, who played the harmonium.
However, Shaan, known for his action-hero image, questioned the idea and said he had just returned from shooting action scenes and firing guns.
Syed Noor said people on the set also warned Shaan that he was an action hero and the director was turning him into a dancer.
However, the filmmaker assured him that he would not look bad in the scene.
He further revealed that the sequence was inspired by Sufi saint Baba Bulleh Shah, who is believed to have worn women's clothes and ghungroos to dance for his spiritual mentor.
Shaan eventually agreed to perform the scene, which Syed Noor said went on to become the biggest highlight of Majajan.
Shaan Shahid is one of Pakistan's most celebrated film stars, while Syed Noor is a renowned director and filmmaker credited with shaping Lollywood through several blockbuster films.
