Amid escalation of Iran and Israel conflict, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Association has warned government of severe gas shortage, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
LPG Industries Association chairman Irfan Khokhar has appealed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister of Petroleum to take notice of LPG shortage.
Irfan Khokhar said that the Government should immediately make special arrangements for the import of LPG.
He added that the price of a domestic cylinder can cross Rs5000 to Rs6,000. While the price per kg is expected to be between Rs 450 and Rs 500.
He told media that ccommercial cylinder will reach Rs 20,000 to Rs 23,000, and the daily consumption of the country is 6,000 metric tons. LPG Association chief said that local production is 60,000 to 70,000 metric tons per month.
The chairman said that the LPG terminal at Port Qassim is SSGC and EVTL with a storage capacity of 6500 metric tons.
The total storage capacity at Port Qasim is 13000 metric tons, which is insufficient for Pakistan.
In a country like Bangladesh, the LPG storage capacity is 300,000 metric tons. He demanded that Pakistan's LPG storage should be increased immediately.
All LPG of Pakistan should be distributed through PSO, SSGCO and PARCO under the formula of marketing companies.
LPG Association chief said that OGDCL is in the hands of gas mafia. He also said the government should take over the local LPG production company from the hands of the mafia.
