An American publication has said that the US President Donald Trump administration should support Pakistan’s bid to get the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) blacklisted by the United Nations, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
In an article published in The Diplomat, it has been said that the BLA and the Majeed Brigade have safe havens in Afghanistan from where they carry out attacks in Pakistan.
It has been further stated that Pakistan and China had approached the UN to isolate the BLA financially as well as diplomatically.
A question has been raised in the article that when the US itself has declared BLA and Majeed Brigade ‘terrorist organizations’, then what is the point in the country’s opposition to the blacklisting of the organization by the UN.
The author has said that by including the BLA in the UN’s list of blacklisted organizations, the latter’s financial sources could have been restricted.
He has brought home the fact that the sanctuaries of militants inside Afghanistan are a permanent threat to regional peace.
It has been pointed out that hitherto, the BLA has been targeting China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, Chinese and Pakistani citizens.
However, the author notes, the outfit’s access and operations could expand in times to come.
The author says that when the US, too, has shown its interest in Balochistan’s rich mineral resources, BLA and Majeed Brigade can pose a threat to the country’s investment in the province as well.
He has stressed the need for an effective and coordinated response to the threat posed by organizations such as BLA and Majeed Brigade.
