Meghan Markle has opened up about her post-royal life in California, revealing how she has embraced new experiences, built friendships, and even faced some awkward moments along the way.
Speaking to People Magazine, the Duchess of Sussex shared insights into her life in Montecito, where she and Prince Harry have settled with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meghan described how she has been making new connections, saying, “I have a couple of girlfriends up here—these are stay-at-home moms and working women with normal jobs, not in the public eye.”
She explained that what started as casual meetups through their children has evolved into deeper friendships, including girls’ nights out and Pilates sessions. However, one of her experiences—attending a large yoga class—initially felt uncomfortable.
“I go to group classes that sometimes have 40 to 50 people in them and just walk in like, ‘Hi!’ Of course, at the beginning, that felt like a lot,” Meghan admitted. “I think anybody walking into a yoga class with 50 people, especially if you’re one of the last to arrive and everyone looks up, it’s going to feel a little uncomfortable!”
She recalled a particularly awkward but heartwarming moment during a session when the instructor encouraged everyone to give their neighbor a fist bump. “I looked over and there was someone, so I went, ‘Well done!’ Then I turned to the other side and said, ‘Nicely done! Come on, guys!’” she laughed.
Despite the initial discomfort, Meghan said she loves these small moments of connection. “That’s part of how you connect. I love it. It’s the best. I had missed it. It’s awesome.”
The former Suits star also expressed gratitude for the welcoming community in Montecito, emphasizing that the transition away from royal life has given her the chance to build relationships and find joy in everyday experiences.
