A Rawalpindi accountability court on Monday heard the Takht Pari reference against prominent property tycoon and 17 others, including former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the accused due to their absence and directed the authorities to arrest and present them at the next hearing.
Elahi’s lawyer appeared in court and submitted a medical certificate. On this basis, the court granted him one-day exemption from appearance.
Apart from 10 accused, lawyers for four others were present in court. The court ordered all 14 present accused to submit bail bonds worth Rs: 5 lakh each.
The reference names a total of 17 accused, who are alleged to have illegally occupied government land in Moza Takht Pari and its surroundings for a housing society. The accused are also charged with causing a loss of Rs335 billion to the national treasury.
The hearing was conducted by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Akmal Khan and has been adjourned until April 16.
