Aleema Khan on Tuesday expressed serious concerns over the health and treatment of the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, who is also founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Addressed the media at the DHA checkpoint in Rawalpindi after what she described as the last iftar of Ramadan held in solidarity with the PTI founder, Aleema Khan said the family remains deeply concerned over his medical condition and the manner in which treatment is being provided in custody.
She rejected the official medical report presented by government doctors, stating that the family would not accept any findings unless the PTI founder’s personal physician is present during treatment. She criticised the report submitted before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, alleging that it was prepared hastily.
Referring to court proceedings, Aleema Khan said important questions were raised by the bench, while the Advocate General argued that shifting Imran Khan to a hospital could create a law and order situation. She expressed disappointment over the outcome, claiming it did not align with expectations based on the court’s queries.
Aleema Khan said the former prime minister is being deliberately kept in jail, warning that his eyesight could deteriorate due to inadequate medical care. “Keeping him in jail and treating him under such conditions is a criminal act,” she asserted.
She criticised administrative authorities, noting that the Chief Commissioner operates under the Interior Ministry, and indicated that legal steps would continue. She added that a petition filed by Dr Uzma would be withdrawn from the Supreme Court, but the struggle for proper medical care would persist.
Highlighting ongoing legal matters, Aleema Khan mentioned that the Chief Justice has fixed March 31 for proceedings in the Al Qadir Trust case, while expressing hope for bail in the Toshakhana II case.
Addressing media coverage, she urged ARY News to apologise for what she termed incorrect reporting regarding a meeting involving her and Sohail Afridi. She questioned the practice of airing news based on unnamed sources and called for accountability from the channel.
On regional issues, Aleema Khan expressed grief over reports of civilian casualties in Afghanistan, including an alleged incident at a rehabilitation centre. She emphasised that Imran Khan has consistently advocated for peace and dialogue, urging that Pakistan engage with Afghanistan through negotiations rather than conflict.
“War is not a solution. Dialogue is the only way forward,” she said, warning that continued hostilities could lead to further escalation.
