Funds for purchase of pink button and bodycams sanctioned

The Punjab government approved a summary for the purchase of pink buttons and bodycams for the security of citizens, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Punjab forwarded a summary for the release of funds to purchase pink buttons and bodycams, which will be installed in 746 police stations and 350 check posts across Punjab, including Lahore.

22 bodycams will be installed in every police station and 4 in every police post. An amount of Rs1.69 billion will be spent on the purchase of this equipment.

The pink button will play a vital role in transparency in investigations, crime monitoring, and swift action in resolving any complaint.

Police officials said that 1,096 pink buttons will be installed at 746 police stations and 350 checkpoints across Punjab, including 84 in Lahore.

Pink buttons will be installed outside police stations for registering urgent complaints related to police stations.

The police officials further stated that 17,812 body cameras will be purchased for police stations and checkpoints.

Officers and personnel posted at police stations will ensure the use of body cameras during operations and during interrogations.

The officials said that the cost of one panic button is Rs135,000, while purchasing 1,096 will cost Rs148 million.

Police officials said that all the pink buttons and bodycams will be made operational within two months.
