Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that Pakistan was acting like a bulwark in the war on terrorism, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to the UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who called on him at the Interior Ministry in Islamabad, Naqvi said that Pakistan had the desire to further cement its relations with Britain.
He further said that the upscale programme was playing a key role in the prevention of organised crimes. “Under the programme, the two countries are cooperating with each other in stopping illegal immigration, online harassment of children, illegal funding and narcotics smuggling,” he said, adding, “Similarly, the two countries are also assisting each other in the exchange of criminal record and sex offenders management.”
The minister said that cooperation between the two countries under the programme was producing the desired results.
The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), he went on to say, in collaboration with the National Crime Agency, had seized 4.3 tonnes of opium, which was valued at 22 million Pound.
Speaking on the occasion, Lammy thanked the government of Pakistan for facilitating the shifting of the Afghan refugees to the UK. “I am glad that the upscale programme is going great guns.”
The relations between the two countries came under discussion at the meeting.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, British High Commissioner in Pakistan Jane Marriott, interior secretary, FIA DG and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
