The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has dismissed claims that the country will experience its coldest winter in decades, asserting that no scientific evidence supports such predictions.
In an official statement on Friday, the Met Office clarified that while some mild winter waves are expected due to western disturbances, there are no indications of an intensely cold season ahead.
The department also forecast below-normal rainfall between December and February, signalling a relatively dry winter for most regions.
“The country can expect some winter waves with minor intensity due to the western wind, but there are no possibilities of an intensely cold winter,” the PMD said.
“This year, Pakistan is expecting less rainfall between December and February.”
The clarification came in response to recent claims from the Intersector Coordination Group (ISCG), which suggested that La Niña could trigger one of Pakistan’s coldest winters in decades.
The PMD, however, has publicly disagreed, stressing that no scientific data or models support such an outcome.
