The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Karachi has arrested an illegal travel agent involved in human trafficking and defrauding citizens of millions of rupees, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.
According to FIA officials, the accused, identified as Rashid Ali, was apprehended from a locality in Karachi. He had been extorting large sums of money from citizens by promising them lucrative jobs in Cambodia. However, he failed to fulfil his commitments.
During the raid, FIA recovered eight passports and other travel documents from the suspect’s possession. The accused had been charging citizens hefty amounts under the pretence of arranging passports and overseas employment, despite having no license.
Authorities added that the suspect could not provide satisfactory explanations for the recovered passports. He has been arrested, and a formal investigation has been launched.
The FIA further stated that a countrywide crackdown against individuals involved in human trafficking is underway, with all available resources being utilised to track and arrest those responsible.
