The government is preparing to announce a special relief package for flood victims within the next one to two days, Secretary Power informed during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Power, chaired by Muhammad Idrees Wednesday.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the session reviewed HESCO’s financial losses and unscheduled load shedding, with members raising tough questions on governance and recovery issues. Secretary Power revealed that while Multan and Lahore DISCOs have achieved nearly 100% recovery, HESCO continues to face challenges due to weak governance.
Committee members stressed the need for solutions to help the working class pay inflated electricity bills in installments. “A laborer cannot pay Rs.30,000 in one go,” remarked member Nosheen Iftikhar, urging installment facilities for low-income households.
On the relief front, the Secretary confirmed that discussions are underway with the Finance Ministry and IMF to finalize measures aimed at easing the burden of electricity bills in flood-hit regions.
“Flood-affected families will see a relief package announced in the next couple of days,” the Secretary assured.
