Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday signed the Country Programme Framework for Nuclear Cooperation.
This is the fifth programme that will be effective from 2026 to 2031. Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar signed the agreement on Pakistan’s behalf. The deputy director general and head at the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation signed the agreement on IAEA’s behalf.
Under this framework, nuclear science and technology will directly support socio-economic development. The framework includes five key areas such as food and agriculture, human health and nutrition, climate change and water resources management, nuclear energy, and radiation and nuclear safety.
The signing of this programme reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful nuclear science and technology, said the PAEC chairman. With the support of the IAEA, Pakistan will continue to use modern technology in food, health, energy and environment, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar added.
