Iraqi authorities have issued new guidelines for pilgrims intending to visit the country’s holy sites, 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to the details, under the revised policy, men under the age of 50 will not be granted pilgrimage visas if applying alone.
Officials clarified that such applicants can only obtain a visa if they apply along with their families.
The decision, according to Iraqi officials, was made on security and administrative grounds to ensure discipline and order during the pilgrimage season.
The move is expected to directly impact a significant number of visitors, particularly from neighbouring countries, who frequently travel for religious purposes.
