The federal government has sought nominations for four bureaucrats and technocrats in Grades 21 and 22 for the 28th National Security Workshop; in this regard, the Establishment Division has requested the names of suitable officers from all relevant departments.
In accordance with the Establishment Division's Office Memorandum dated August 17, 2026, the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, organizes an annual five-week National Security Workshop.
Participants include parliamentarians, high-ranking government officials, diplomats, senior civil and military officers, and representatives of civil society. The workshop aims to provide a platform for top-tier leadership from diverse walks of life to deliberate on issues concerning Pakistan's national security.
According to the aforementioned memo, the 28th National Security Workshop will be held from November 2 to December 4, 2026. The NDU has sought nominations for four bureaucrats or technocrats in BS-21 and BS-22, along with a 50 percent reserve list. Officers who have previously attended a National Security Workshop cannot be nominated again.
The Establishment Division has directed that nominations of suitable officers—including their particulars and obtained consent—be submitted by August 21, 2026, in accordance with the prescribed format. The memorandum also references NDU’s letter No. 211/KC&PP/NDU/28th NSW dated July 31, 2026.
Earlier,The federal government has issued orders regarding the posting and transfer of civil and police officers.
Asim Iftikhar, a Grade-22 officer of the Foreign Service of Pakistan currently serving as Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, has been transferred and appointed as Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the notification, his appointment as Foreign Secretary will take effect on September 18, 2026.
Special Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production Ahsan Ali Mangi has been assigned the interim charge of Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production. According to the notification, he will perform the duties of Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production until the appointment of a permanent secretary.
It may be recalled that a day ago, Saif Anjum was transferred from the post of Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production and ordered to report to the Establishment Division. In addition, the federal government has also appointed other senior officers.
