Accepting the petition filed by the Punjab Healthcare Commission, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday declared null and void a district court’s decision to overturn a fine slapped on a quack who would practise as a doctor at a medical store, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Punjab Healthcare Commission had fined the quack Rs300,000.
In its 10-page verdict, which has been described as a judicial precedent, the court said that a dispenser’s competence and Drug Sale Licence did not permit him to practice as a doctor or administer an injection.
The court further said that 24 used syringes and different injections were recovered from the medical store, and the suspect had confessed before the commission to have administered the injection.
The court went on to say that no plausible explanation was given for the presence of used syringes.
It acknowledged that the Commission’s hearing committee had the legal authority to impose the fine. “The commission has been tasked with banning all kinds of quackery,” the court said.
