A Karachi court has directed police to register a case on a petition related to Humaira Asghar, whose decomposed body was discovered in her apartment about 10 months after her death, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Hearing a plea filed by lawyer Shahzaib Sohail, who sought the registration of a murder case into the recovery of Humaira’s body, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) issued directives to register a case under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The court stated that police must proceed in accordance with the law and record statements of the deceased’s family members before finalising action. According to police reports submitted in the previous hearing, investigators confirmed that the actress’s post-mortem examination had been completed and that blood samples were collected from her room and washroom. However, the final forensic report is still awaited. Police assured the court that further action would be taken once the forensic findings are received. During the hearing, lawyer pointed out several suspicious elements, including the fact that Humaira’s phone remained active until February 2025, despite her death being reported on October 7, 2024.
He also noted that the actress’s WhatsApp display picture was deleted after her death, raising concerns of foul play. The petitioner argued that Humaira Asghar did not die of natural causes but was murdered. He demanded that the court summon the makeup artist who last contacted her and direct police to include the actress’s brother and close relatives in the investigation. Police, however, maintained that if sufficient evidence surfaces, they would proceed to register a formal case themselves. The petition also named the SSP South and SHO Gizri as respondents. The tragic death of Humaira Asghar continues to raise questions.
